Restart.

I was about to delete this account but changed my mind last minute. Figured I'll do some crazy changes so that I'll fall in love with it again & it worked! http://www.seeveearts.blogspot.com/ looks awesome in desktop mode AND in mobile mode. Its just too bad though that the template I fell in love with leaves out some information in desktop mode but otherwise, I'm happy!

Folks, I will be more active:

Cosmetic Bottles & Kettle Paintings

Below is an unfinished painting of 11 bottles. Prof said that the reflection of the bottles make it seem like I placed a glass panel underneath them which wasn't the case. The dresser was made out of fake wood that had a thin layer of shiny lacquer on top. Its funny how it looks like glass though when the perfume bottles on each side are made of glass but doesn't look so.

This kettle painting was completed in almost 4 hours. I would like it to look more like a photograph but Prof said that the way it looks, makes it obvious its an oil painting.

He said my kettle doesn't look like a Giorgio Mirandi painting like this (minimilistic).....

& doesn't look like William Bailey's (exact) ...........

Sort of close to Olga Antonova's (I wish!) ..........

& has the heavy strokes of a Van Gogh's (which is pretty cool !!! =D ) ......

My Better Paintings: Leg study & sneakers

Isn't it strange how I do some of my best paintings within a short span of time? Oh yeah, also when I'm uncomfotable?

I'd like to point out that the shoes are deformed because of my bunions :( Hate 'em. Anyway, I love this sneakers painting & I'm thinking its because of the kind of canvas paper. This paper is so coarse, your hands hurt with every stroke. I need to find me more of this...

Native American Bust

It's been awhile...sorry for all you people who actually look through my site. My laptop has been down & I've been working a lot trying to raise enough money for school but I still try to draw/ sketch/ paint whenever I can. I noticed if I take a little break from painting, my painting suffers. You should have seen me Dec '10, I was on a roll. I was painting EVERY DAY to have an impressive collection of work to show my professor & i think you can see I was beginning to get comfortable through my works. Unfortunately once the holidays started, I havent had enough time to practice but I'm starting to get back on the grind. (Its the last day on Jan *sigh*).

Below are 2 paintings of the same Native American bust.

To be honest, I don't like these. They're too elementary. I want my paintings to look like Vincent Fantauzzo's (Twitter @vfantauzzo) or any artist who can make their work seem realistic. But then again, I work with real life (with the subject right in front of me) & Fantauzzo works from photographs. Maybe I should start working with photographs? But say I do, I feel like there will be an essence missing....

Don't forget to follow me on twitter: @seeveearts :)

Placement & less Turpentine

I learned a lot from my last post. It wasn't until last week did I realize that I'm getting more comfortable with painting. I used to use a lot of turpentine & less paint but was told by a classmate that the paint already has oil in it that there's no need for too much turpentine. In fact, she doesn't use turpentine at all but to clean her brushes! Crazy! I noticed my paintings looked like watercolor bc of the turpentine :/

The painting on the left is an example of bad placement lol. I didn't mean for the whole subject to be so far right. Anyway, my professor taught me to choose the very center of the whole subject I want to show in my painting & base measurements around that. But it was too late, I started from right to left already....

** Notice I am still using raw umber & have not mixed colors yet. I tried in one of my paintings but I hated it lol.

This is my first painting of a model.... its alright I think. I'd love my portraits to look more human & less cartoonish though.

Ahhhh Painting.....how we have a love/ hate relationship.....

So for my first painting class we had to paint bottles arranged on a table with a spotlight from the right. I had to get used to many things being that paint is different from my usual tools. Here I learned after that its best to apply a light amount of oil color (one color- raw umber) with more turpentine because it is easier to erase any mistakes, etc. Plus with oil, its a lot easier going from light to dark than dark light. I also learned to use my brush as a measuring device to tell the height, width, & distance of objects in relation to each other. In the end I ran out of turpentine which explains the heavy brushmarks.

This is a huuuuge step being that my first attempt came out really bad I had to flip the canvas to start over. It was a good thing my professor did a 10 min demo because I learned a whole lot. You can still see my structural marks especially on the lying bottle & the tall rectangular bottle. I had to stop myself from erasing them because the area will be discolored. It's funny because for painting you have to be picky; you have to control how much pressure, how much oil paint to use, how much turpentine, etc. WITHOUT USING A PENCIL in the beginning. Every mark counts.

Blurry bc my cell's camera is broken :( Underlying structure of bottles I was practicing in my apartment. BTW, I again had to flip the canvas to start over.

COMPLETE!!! Came out better than I expected. L to R is a ketchup bottle, mustard container, Jelly bottle, & glass container of mango anchar yuummmm.... If you haven't noticed, that's supposed to be the view of a section of my refridgerator door.
This is really how I worked on that painting... gruelling! LOL
